Chalktoberfest Marietta

こんにちわ。

2nd favorite one

Today I was at the Chalktoberfest in Marietta, Ga, where they lock up all the streets in the Square and then let various artists draw their pictures on the streets. It's amazing how some of the artists capture the moment of their particular picture on their and how easily they do it. Of course, it's not, but it's nice to imagine. Besides trying not to think, eating chocolate and trying not to get killed by simply driving around, it was great to see something colorful here. All the artworks had different themes, so there were some from Star Wars, famous actors, dancers, and a lot of them were about the Cherokee Indians. My favorite one is unfortunately still unfinished but it was a dancer and the background reminds me of planets and space. I wish I could draw like that but that's veeeeery unlikely. All artists are sponsored by different companies, organizations, KSU, Wellstar, or other important sounding things. They actually fly them to Marietta from different countries, so most of them were from different states in the U.S. but some of them also were from Italy, Mexico, or Ukraine. There will be something like a competition tomorrow / today (Sunday) with all the finished artworks. Unfortunately, tomorrow I'm going to the Applefestival somewhere in Georgia right after Church, so I might not have the chance to find out which one was the best (according to the jury).

My week has been pretty busy so far as we had the mid-terms this week, two presentations, homework, my college applications, the CIP application, career readiness fairs, and and and. Also, I found a lot of friends now, so I have to do things with them (poor me I know) and I had my driver's license test which I passed. I passed it with 80% because I was driving too slowly around the corners and I still have to laugh about it. Anyway, driving here is getting better, especially in the middle of the night but even at 5 am there are so many people on the roads. Everything here feels like a German highway and I am more than confused by their left left right turn system. You can't just turn left, no you have to decide which left you want to turn into because the roads eventually end after 5 secs.

Hopefully, I will be able to start looking for jobs from next week on and we are also going to have a job fair at KSU. My resume looks good so far and I already took a picture for my LinkedIn profile which I still need to set up but I was too busy. I don't know how people manage all their stuff because I have been here for more than 10 weeks now and I still need to organize basic things. I'll register my car on Monday and in case I ever receive my car title, everything will be settled then. Though I still need to find a job; although it seems to me that these things are a lot easier here than in Germany. People are more open to the idea of teaching someone instead of expecting impossible things from you.

Halloween is coming by the way and people started decorating their houses and front yards. It's great to see how everything changes and it's the first thing that makes me realize that it is already October. We still have temperatures around 70-80°F and it freaks me out. Honestly, I still wear hot pants and tops and I'm melting. The good thing is: November is going to be cooler (they promised me) but the 'bad' thing is that I am going to Florida for the first week + weekend of November, so it's probably going to be hot again. A friend and I are going to travel and have a little road trip because I need to go to Gainesville anyway to take a test for my college application. Oxford always needs a little bit extra but it's a great excuse for me to travel around and spend some money. ^.^ In two weeks, there's Owl-O-Ween which I think is a pretty funny name by the way. It is a big balloon festival and they have food, music, and lots of other unnecessary things. October is a very busy month in general I guess but it's good for me. I need to be kept busy.
